Job Title:         Vice President of Commercial Lending

Job Summary: The primary purpose to this position is to assist the Credit Union in achieving its mission of becoming the business members’ financial partner. Under general supervision, in accordance with established policies and procedures, providing a variety of business loan and deposit services to the membership and area small businesses.  Development of Unison Credit Union’s Member Business Loan and Deposit portfolio by ensuring quality service and actively soliciting new Member Business Loans and Deposits. Ensure compliance with legal requirements, lending regulations, internal policies and procedures. Cross-sell credit union products. Work with the Marketing Department to develop effective customized marketing strategies. Maintain a working knowledge of all services and operations of the credit union. Coordinate activities with all departments in the credit union for maximum efficiency.
The hiring range for this position is $60,000 - $100,000 annually plus benefits.  Pay is commensurate with experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assume responsibility for the development and implementation of Business Lending, Business Deposit Services, policies, procedures, and planning which include but not limited to the following:
    • Develop short and long-term goals and plans for the Business Lending Portfolio. Assist with budgeting that supports the credit union’s strategic plan for the Business Loan Department.  Monitor progress on a regular basis. Provide suggestions and recommendations for the growth, development, enhancement, and profitability of the Business Loan Portfolio.
    • Assist in developing policies and procedures for Business Lending activities. Conduct periodic reviews of existing systems and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency, effectiveness and legal compliance for both federal and state regulations. Instigate improvements and promotional practices that will further the objectives of the Credit Union.
    • Work with the Marketing Department to promote Business Lending and Deposit Services.
    • Execute lending goals and ensure that the corporate-wide objectives are complemented and supported.
    • Maintain knowledge of competitors’ rates and terms and other trends relating to business lending.  Construct products, rates, and terms that reflect the marketplace.
    • Develop, analyze and monitor all reports relevant to maintaining portfolio quality and minimize risk. 
    • Develop procedures and reporting tools for effective information to flow through the department.
    • Perform audit of business loan files to ensure quality of work and quality of documentation.
  • Assume responsibility for ensuring that professional business relations exist with members, staff, vendors and trade professionals.
    • Formulate and maintain a loan procedures manual for Business Lending Department that is up-to-date with all regulations and requirements. Ensure staff training and compliance.
    • Ensure that staff and business members maintain knowledge of Business Loan and Deposit Services offerings and questions are promptly and courteously resolved.
    • Network with community leaders and organizations to further develop appropriate leads and reflect the credit union’s commitment to the markets served.
    • Ensure that staff is properly informed of the Credit Union’s business loan policies and procedures.
    • Ensure that the Credit Union’s professional reputation is maintained both internally and externally.
    • Represent the Credit Union in contacts with business and trade professionals.
    • Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities, companies and/or individuals, becomes necessary.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
    • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
    • Stay informed regarding developments and changes in the Business Lending field.
    • Assist with promotional activities and cross-sell services.
    • Complete special projects as assigned.

  • Team member is responsible for adhering to the terms of the Bank Secrecy ACT (BSA) applicable to this position, which includes but is not limited to the timely filing of Currency Transaction Report, the reporting of suspicious activity and the adherence to our Customer Identification Program. The team member is required to attend mandatory BSA training annually.

 Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of Business Lending experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge and managing experience in business lending, with at least 3 – 6 years of experience, including but not limited to origination, processing and compliance is required and growing a portfolio of Business Lending
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • Full time employment is approximately 40 hours/week
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Abides by all policies, procedures, and protocols set forth in the departmental, Unison Credit Union Employee, operational and administrative policy manuals.
  • Monday – Friday – Typically 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Physical and Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk and hear; to reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; use a keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl to move about to accomplish tasks. Prolonged standing throughout the workday at times. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Working Environment:
Work is performed in an indoor office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but sometimes very noisy. There may be occasions when the work environment is stressful. Occasional travel required for prospecting, attendance to meetings, events and/or training.
